Apparently McDonalds is going to be Foxtons. Other bits - the newsagents on the corner opp Hollybush were asked for a lease hike from 15k per annum to 22k by their landlord and that's why they've gone (sorry if this has appeared elsewhere). Also Hollybush Stores are considering packing it in because of the council's refusal to grant them a temp loading bay outside. It's been mentioned before on this forum that the Local Development Framework (or PPS12) requires that councils take the views of the community seriously as a prerequisite for their sustainability policy but to be honest the LDF allows little opportunity for community involvement because at the time scheduled for community appraisal planning has already been approved.

We will protest in the streets with placards before lack of a loading bay ousts Hollybush Stores. I'm not being flippant, it's fundamental to support shops like this.
And as for Foxtons, so it's true then? In that light, I expect Westow News will become Starbucks.

This is INSANE the put a one way system and they are so freaking narrow minded about supporting the local business what would they gain to depress the area?
ARGHHHH!!!

I'm getting reet hacked off with local landlords... we'll end up with an "anytown" high street because only corporates can afford the big rents and survive on small margins. How? By paying the staff nothing and keeping the overheads low.
Anyone fancy a Trotskyist revolution?

Absolutely agree with Spoon about supporting Hollybush - almost as useful as Turtles in Croydon, but much closer when I need something quickly.
But after watching Parking Wars last week (salute JGX!), I was amazed to find that the law allows users to be ticketed if they haven't started loading within 3 minutes of arriving in a loading bay. Thank goodness that Croydon aren't quite as rapacious as Lambeth when it comes to taking all opportunities to presecute motorists (or do we need a Croydon Parking thread as well?!). In any case, aren't we allowed a few minutes loading on a single yellow line? I'm not sure what the signs say on Westow Street.

It's not so much the signs as the cameras! I got done for parking in the loading bay (I had thought it was a parking bay) outside Picture Palace when I was caught on film... Don't chance it at all, I say.

I have read today in the Palace news magazine that the old Westow Street/Central Hill Newsagents will now be turned into the Crystal Palace Heritage Centre. It is due to open on the 1st April.
[Sorry if this may have veered off topic James!!]
