We are currently looking at moving to the Grangewood Park area and would love to know more about it. Do any forum members live in the area and what do you think of it?
As far as we can tell it seems a lovely quiet area - or are we just going there at ther wrong time - is it still quiet on match days?
Any thoughts and ideas greatly welcomed.
Many thanks

Not sure exactly where you mean but can vouch for South Norwood as no worse than many places and indeed better in some ways - fast transport from Norwood Junction to town, lots of green public space like this park or South Norwood Lake, the new leisure centre, several recommended restaurants on Portland Road and only a short hop to the Palace establishments if you need.
On match days, I could find I lost my parking space all the way over near the lake - hardly next door to the ground - and would try to get to Sainsbury's at Selhurst Park and back before it all kicked off (as it were). Sainsbury's shares its carpark with the ground too so the shop shuts at 1pm on match days but it's not really a problem unless you forget to check fixtures and chug merrily over to get your dinner in. I loved the atmosphere of the footie times, though, and have only seen trouble once when some Chelsea fans were getting a bit excited on their way to a game but, though I'm sure this will change, Chelsea visits are not an issue for Palace at the moment... Match days are also good for business as every single place, from the pubs to the Wimpy, are packed with customers. When I lived in SN, I saw the football as a positive on the whole.
Plus you have Tony's fish and chips on the high street, which puts £10k on the value of any local property in my book.
I've had a look at the park on a map, though, and it seems to edge into the Thornton Heath area, which I can't comment on but haven't fancied anywhere near as much as the Norwoods. Always seems a bit of a no-man's land. Though I did hear someone say they came from "North Surrey, darling" and it turned out to be Thornton Heath.

Spoon - many thanks for the response - most useful. I definitely look forward to checking out Tony's Fish & Chips!
Has anyone lived in the park area?

I currently live near the top of grange road but when we still had our dog we used to use grangewood park a lot.
Its a really nice area and we have lived here for nearly 9 years. the only problem I can think of in the area is the speed of traffic on Grange Road. But a lot of the roads nearby are much quieter.
As for match days, parking can be tricky and I would advise walking if you are going short distances or try and go while the match is in progress to avoid traffic travelling to or form the ground.
The area is close to the 468 bus route which takes you all the way into croydon and norwood junction would be your closest train station.
hope some of this helps!

We live in the Grangewood Park area and really like it. Grangewood Park is a lovely park especially on a snowy day like today, we were out making snowmen. It has tennis courts, a bowling green and an oak tree canopied playground which is usually fairly empty.
The area around Grangewood Park is on the very far edge of South Norwood bordering on Thornton Heath and Upper Norwood. One of the selling points for us moving to the area is that you get the advantages of Upper Norwood- restaurants, cafes and shops, libraries for the house prices of South Norwood. South Norwood High street is very relatively distant.
Since Crystal Palace entered the Championship we have found parking for football is not really an issue. Sometimes you can hear the football crowds cheering if the wind is blowing the right way!
