Does anyone know why the Police Station on Central Hill is cordoned off with Police tape and lots of Policemen? Bit of a daft place to commit a crime if you ask me!
hans
There was an altercation resulting in a stabbing on central hill by ine of the bus stops on the way to Virgo Fidelis - the injured chap ran for the police station by the looks of things

Can I just ask how you know this hans?
hans
Well Sargent Sedgely, my wife was nearly knocked over by running wounded and we know some people who live in the area.

I wondered because I drove past a group, by the post office on Central Hill, that set off my "Spidey-sense" at about 5.40pm. Then by the time I reached Crown Point seven police vehicles rushed past in the opposite direction. So, I thought that something serious must have happened, especially if the police reacted that quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, although I was suspicious, I didn't note any details that would help police enquiries should they be asking for help, which they aren't…

It is a helpful and if used intelligently, a highly effective tool for street crime. Anyone wishing to know what plans and how we implement this in Norwood is welcome to e-mail me, or come along to any of our ward panel meetings / neighbourhood watch meetings were you can ask questions and hopefully get honest answers.

We have put huge resources into Norwood in the last few weeks, to reduce gang and knife crime. The proverbial proof in the pudding is that 1) few people realised the operation was ongoing, and 2) we achieved the desired outcome, avoidance of and halting of an emerging knife problem over two weekends. This achieved without either I hope inconvenience to the population of the area, and vitally the alienation of the young people who were both potential victims and "customers" of the operation.

thanks

its great that Gang crime is being tackled (I think I saw it in action this weekend at the end of my road). But what worries me is where our local police are in an emergency. Two Sundays ago at about 2pm we witnessed as incident on Westow Street as we were driving along. We called the police and gave them full descriptions of the people involved, their location and that it was happening as we spoke, we were called back ten minutes later and were asked for details again and told that a car was on its way from Croydon. What good is that, the people involvved would have long vanished and why are police coming from Croydon when Gipsy Hill station is two minutes away and there are stations in Penge and Streatham that are a lot nearer than Croydon.
