Crystal Palace Pictures presents... Gun Crazy

Dear friend of Crystal Palace Pictures,

After last time's brilliant Icelandic double bill we're in noir heaven with little seen, sixty year old gem, Gun Crazy (also known as Deadly is the Female).

"When Bart (John Dall), a crack-shot ex-con meets Annie (Peggy Cummins), a carnival femme-fatal, trouble is not far away in this noir classic. Driving her man to ever greater lengths to satisfy her lust for money, Bart and Annie get deeper and deeper into a fix from which they may never escape.

If you know and love films like Bonnie and Clyde (Bart and Annie are loosely based on the infamous real-life Depression era desperados), Badlands (a CPP favorite!) and Natural Born Killers, then you need to watch Gun Crazy, the forerunner of them all."

See our website for reviews, although there's no trailer for this one I'm afraid.

We'll also be joined by special guests Emma Finn and Richard Whieldon. Two local film makers who will show their own short noir classic!

Another great night out at the Gipsy Hill Tavern. See you on Thursday for a 7.30pm start.

Cheers,

Mark

YOGA lessons in CP, Monday Mornings

I am posting this for my wonderful Yoga teacher, Anna.

Anna is a trained Yoga Kundalini teacher and will start a new class on Monday mornings in Crystal Palace.
The class is aimed at mums with young children (under four) who can come along to the lesson. The children don't participate in the lesson, but can play, look at books, sleep, or join in if they wish.
Anna successfully runs similar classes in Dulwich for many years.

If you wish to come along WITHOUT a child you are of course equally welcome, just be aware that there will be kids running around.

The course starts on April the 26th, 9:30 am - 11 am in the Paxton Primary School, Community Room.
The course will run throughout the year during term time.

4 week course is £28 (concession £25).

If you are interested, please call Anna: 07971290464

PS: Obviously I wouldn't post this if I didn't think Anna was a great Yoga teacher, but if you want to ask me about my own experience don't hesitate to pm me.

Reading Allowed

Hello to any bookworms with lungs in need of some exercise.
Janet & John invite you to come reading in the delightful Kahvah Coffee Shop (521 Norwood Road, SE27) this Sunday (14th March). We'll be there from 3pm probably til 5 or 5.30 (depending how many others show up).

Bring something to read out loud - your own work, or a personal favorite. But make it short (certainly no more than 10 minutes to read aloud). We'll go once round the table like this by way of introduction, then we propose to pitch into the first book of Paradise Lost - taking it in turns to let the words roll over your tongue. We'll carve up the text in bite-sized chunks to help the reading along, but it will be great if you can bring your own copy.

Open to anyone, so please pass the news to anyone you think would enjoy it. We'll be at the back of Kahvah around the long table, or the lovely Lubna, behind the counter, will tell you who we are.

Does anyone play poker?

I was wondering if anyone plays poker.

I run a once-monthly home game (Texas Hold'em, no limit tournament) but was curious to know if anyone else in the area plays...

It seems that, increasingly, pubs are starting to host games: the Black Sheep advertises a game, the Gyspsy Tavern I think has a league, the Horns Tavern does... Has anyone tried any of these/are they any good?

sharing a daytime yoga class

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone else would be up for a daytime yoga class in crystal palace... My work is usually busy at the times when yoga classes are usually held, and i'm missing it! So i'd be up for something ideally monday or thursday mornings/ lunch time-ish?? I may be able to provide a venue too, so i figure if there's a few of us we could get a teacher..!
I prefer Sivananda style i think (but I'm not an expert! Just something with a good mix of dynamic and varies asanas i think rather than ashtanga...)
Let me know your thoughts!
