Just a not to all SMEs (Small and Medium sized Enterprises) in the Crystal Palace area:

If you are an SME and interested in installing an Environmental Management System (EMS) or just want a bit of help in making your business more sustainable, I am organising a free workshop in Crystal Palace on Thursday 10th November. If you are interested, want to book a place or have any queries call Neev on 07944 855 210.

This workshop is FREE and funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Below is information of the workshop and how it may benefit your business. Following completion of the course, you will have an Environmental Policy and a certificate of the training. see www.globalactionplan.org.uk for more information.

The offer – free EMS Easy training and follow-up implementation support for small and medium sized enterprises located in a
London Borough.

The benefits - having an Environmental Management System (EMS) brings many business benefits. An EMS:

· Helps win new business by standing out from the competition.
· Provides a framework to manage environmental aspects (including energy, waste, water, carbon and legislation).
· Helps set policy and targets to monitor and improve financial and environmental performance.
· Shows customers a business is managing its environmental responsibilities and achieving ISO 14001 or EMAS certification
demonstrates quality.
· Enables businesses to find less costly methods of production.

The service - ‘EMS Easy’ is a new template-based toolkit designed to easily implement an EMS. Many businesses across Europe
have used the toolkit to achieve certification to the European EMAS and International ISO 14001 standard.

EMS Easy is based on a simple, visual and practical tool called Ecomapping™ used in over 80 countries. The Ecomapping and
EMAS easy™ tools were developed by Heinz Werner Engel in Belgium; Global Action Plan is licensed to use them in the UK.

Key benefits of EMS Easy (compared to traditional EMS methods):

· Easy to understand and apply.
· All staff engage with the process and benefits.
· Fast to implement (4-9 instead of 15-18 months).
· Reduced implementation cost – the effort to build an EMS, maintain it and deliver environmental improvements is reduced.
· Lean and un-bureaucratic - EMS manual and statement are both reduced to two pages.
· Easily audited – the EMS can often be audited in one day, saving on auditing costs.

Furthermore, the first EMS Easy company was revalidated after 3 years demonstrating that the toolkit can deliver sound,
lasting and meaningful results.

The training - our programme is designed to give you control over developing and implementing your own EMS. We provide an
intensive one-day workshop covering all the aspects of your EMS Easy toolkit. This can then be supplemented by free follow-up
support for eligible London-based SMEs.

Once completed, your EMS can be externally accredited to EMAS or ISO 14001 standard.

This looks like a great initiative Niamh, thanks for posting. It would be interesting to know how it goes, how many SMEs take part and what sort of impact the EMS has on their business.

Ties in neatly with Transmission Town ethos :)
