Hi there,

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing difficulties editing posts. I have completely lost the ability to save minor editing or use the full editor. Looks like it could be a case of post in haste repent at extreme leisure.

Attached is what I see on the screen - oh I can't find the attachment facility either.

Well it says Message from webpage - and Exclamation mark symbol with Object error in a square box.

Probably my computer but thought I'd raise it just in case.

If anyone can advise or offer any solutions that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You can only edit within a short timeframe. Once that time has past, you can no longer edit. How long was it between your original posting and when you went to edit it?

Hi matt-h - There was an immediate attempt to edit following the accidental spelling of church as *chuch* (posh version). I'm aware of the timeframes and as a heavy editor due to speeling problems it is a problem I have only started experiencing over the the past week.

I am also unable to edit or, worse, insert images!

It appears the forum software is very broken. I'm getting all the abve problems too. Matt-VN, we need a patch!

There are times when it would be useful to have the delete post function back too. :o

Did you have a chance to do this yet, Matt?

I seem to be able to insert images again but there is still no edit function.

And there's a long-term problem with subscriptions...

On a forum I help moderate, we had big problems with people "re-writing" history through post deletion and long-term editing. It really makes a mess of threads if people can delete their posts as and when they choose. We had a big problem with one guy being blatantly rude to people, then editing or deleting his posts to "hide the evidence". That's no way to build trust in a forum, so this is why most administrators remove those capabilities.

Matt-h - I wasn't meaning re-writing history by deleting posts as and when people choose. I am referring to what I think we had previously on VN which was a very short window of opportunity like the editing function to delete a post. There is the self moderation issue but I was thinking of something very different but I suppose you can always go back and edit instead.

And I think the delete option was only available to Sponsors so probably pretty inequitable anyway.

Sorry, I meant matt-h in the unclear post above, rather than MattVN.

@Charlie: No-worries. Your smiley suggested you may have wanted to wreak some history-changing havoc ;-)

@GillW: Did I have a chance to do what? I still think you mean MattVN -- he's the techie here, I only post here as a punter :-)
