Guys, give it a rest will you? I don't think anyone thinks it was a wise thing to do.

Why should we? It was an outrageous thing to say. It's a two way street. Well it should be and isn't. Odious woman who should be sacked

Because the point has been made. Try and show SL some respekt though. Hard-working Mod that she is (harder than me. I've been house husbanding all day)

For the record I also think it was a silly thing to say...

Elmo. I love SL as it were. But it is an important issue that has to be discussed I don't think we were over egging anything at all. She is a mod who doesn't deserve the grief she gets (guilty) but as I said why am I castigated for commenting on something that is frankly tantamount to . Actually I don't know. But she is an absolute disgrace of a woman If she was white we'd be waxing lyrical for ever over this.

Well, at least we're agreed that anyone who defines people by colour must apologise or resign...

Daft thing to tweet, I am forever astonished at the stupidity of some MPs!

I shall just be ever grateful that she didn't follow the celebrity trend of trying to gain attention by Tweeting, erm, interesting pictures of themself.

I've read through the twitter discussion [BBC Link] and I although I find the comments very disturbing and verging on racism, I personally would not call her a racist. Totally unacceptable from a person whose trade is allegedly representing people whatever their race.

But my definition if racist, in common with most people, is much narrower than legal, media and political classes demand. If we judge her comments against the ethereal tests the 'state' suggests then the comments are racist and therefore Dianne Abbott is a racist. I think the topic of the thread sums it up "Careful what you wish for"

And there's more, she's in another race row after it has emerged that she tweeted on Jan 3rd that London cabbies won't pick up black people http://glasgowunihum...w-race-row.html

Writing on Twitter, she said: "Dubious of black people claiming they've never experienced racism. Ever tried hailing a taxi I always wonder?"
The comment emerged the day after she claimed white people love to "divide and rule."

O dear...

Harsh. I think it is quite a good painting actually, if a little unflattering :)

None of us are exactly oil paintings anyway......
