Open air cinema in Crystal Palace Park?

The Crystal Palace Overground Festival committee is working with the Picture Palace Campaign to bring an open air cinema to Crystal Palace Park for one night of the festival on Friday 15 June. Currently we are talking to Bromley Council and Picturehouse Cinemas to get permission and a film to show and we are very hopeful that this event will go ahead.

It will be a free event but ticketed online through an event ticketing website to control access.

We still need to find the funds to pay for fencing, security, online ticketing and toilets (and maybe the film too if we cannot get this for free). We also need some volunteer stewards to help manage the event. Costs are being confirmed as this post goes up but if you can help on any of these aspects of the event then please do get in touch:

- Do you know any companies who can supply Heras security fencing, SIA security or toilets for free - we can offer them sponsorship of the event.

- Can you help steward on 15 June? The event will run from 8pm to 11pm and will involve checking tickets and making sure the perimeter is secure during the event.

All sponsors will benefit from being part of the festival’s marketing campaign, plus the What's On Guide which will be going out 2 weeks before the festival of which there will be a print run of 6,000 copies.

Full details can be supplied if you know any companies that might be interested.

Please contact Noreen at info@crystalpalacefestival.org or on 07725 057453 if you can help in any way.

We will bring a cinema to Crystal Palace! If only for one night!

Thanks for all your help.

Great idea. :) I've just signed up as a volunteer via the Facebook page (you can also do that here: http://crystalpalace...rg/recruitment/). Four hours of my time = £30 gig voucher (not to mention swelling the metaphorical community chest). What's not to like? I've also offered my front garden as somewhere to display an Acorn signboard promoting the festival - they're crying out for more spots for these!

Thanks for the support everyone. Good news and bad news. The Overground Festival and The Picture Palace Campaign have everything in place to make an Open Air Cinema in Crystal Palace Park happen - a fantastic film - thanks to Picturehouse Cinemas, a brilliant screen and all the projecting equipment - thanks to Future Projections, funding for site set up etc.. but sadly not the sunset time which is too late to meet the licence requirements on end time i.e. 11pm.

As we want to give Crystal Palace community the best cinematic experience possible, we have decided to postpone until late August early September when external conditions will be better.

Watch this space for further updates. :)

Hey VN'ers - Looks like this could be back on with a bit of organisation and a few volunteers :) - are we up for putting on an outdoor screening later this month or early October in support of the Campaign and Crystal Palace Overground Festival?????? Could be a nice way to ease ourselves into the Crystal Palace International Film Festival which starts on the 9 October.

Could be quite atmospheric - bring a blanket, a hot-water bottle and someone to cuddle up to...! :hugkiss:

I'd be pleased to help out - and might be able to get Junior Rosehips and some of their teen friends, who are film enthuisasts, to volunteer too. Keep me in the loop...

Thanks Rosehip - fantastic.

If we are realistically going to make it happen, it will depend on pulling a number of different tasks together in a very short time period.

At present we are either looking at Saturday September 22 or Saturday 13 October. The obvious choice weather wise is September but there is a lot to do which relies on goodwill and input from a range of people.

We would be looking for approx 15 volunteers, and some with first aid experience too, to help out from the afternoon of the event onwards.

If anyone is interested in getting involved please contact us at picturepalacecampaign@gmail.com asap.

Best wishes from the Picture Palace Campaign

Well the plan was to concrete over the boating lake...
opposed to taking terrapins.

We've decided to hold off until next year, just too much to put into place in too short a space of time to make this a warm and special event for supporters.

Thanks for the interest everyone. We've still got the Crystal Palace International Film Festival to look forward to which starts on 9 October.
