Yep, I hear it many evenings, I'm a bit further down on Auckland Rd. You're not dreaming ;-)

There were 2 here (off CP Park Road) a few weeks back. I thought it was someone outside taking the proverbial but I actually saw one fly off. They were breaking Highway Code rule 112 which states you can't hoot:
...in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am.
Probably.

I often hear an owl hooting in the garden of my house on Anerley Road (near Thicket Road), was a lovely suprise the first time as I certainly never expected to hear one in deepest SE20!
I guess we have Crystal Palace Park to thank for that :)

Love hearing the owl in Grangewood Park. It’s a very re-assuring sound to fall asleep to. Doubt if he is so chilled, am I right that the hooting is a male looking for a female?

Once saw an Eagle Owl in Westow Street (seriously) - in the passenger seat of a car, which I assume didn't have a properly functioning audible warning system.

And Cal, I'll try this technique with La Senora - might get a bit more attention :)

It was around again last night... one loud singular owl noise and then nothing more. It seemed half-hearted like he was either incapable or couldn't be bothered to repeat the call. He just didn't give two hoots.

I'll get me coat.

Used to love hearing the owl where I lived at the top of Auckland Rd. A little reminder of the great north wood.

And that would be my 3000th post!

Yep I hear owls hooting occasionally, I think from trees in The Lawns, which backs onto the gardens of my block, and I've recently been hearing woodpeckers. Again, preferable to the 'murdered baby' screeching of the ubiquitous foxes and the squawking of the crows, which starts far too early in the morning for my liking.

I hear it most nights when I let the dogs out. A lovely sound.
