I emailed thedot re what's happening, if anything, to welcome the Brazilian Olympics team and haven't as yet had a reply. Does anyone know? Those banners that went up prematurely a year early saying 'welcome' in Portuguese have long since been removed!

Is this something to do with it..... or purely coincidental?

Yes, I saw that story too. Just did a quick google and found this:

Sunday 22nd July 2012

Where: The Concert Bowl, Crystal Palace Park, London SE20 8DT Nearest Station: nearest tube station Map: View location on a map Times: 12:00 - 19:00 Admission: To take part in the Zumba World Recod attempt; Individual cost of £10. Family of 4 (max 2 adults) £25. Any additional children pay their age (up to £10)

About the event:

Harris HospisCare's offical Guinness World Record Attempt for the largest Zumba dance class.

The event, in partnership with MyTime Active, forms part of the national Big Dance campaign to encourage people to get active and try out all forms of dance. The finale of the event is a Guinness World Record attempt for the Largest Zumba Dance Class.

The day starts with the Brazilian carnival parade, and free taster workshops from the Paraiso School of Samba, Capoeira Ceara, Freez with B Supreme, Line dancing with Primetime, Flamenco with Viva Flamenco, Bollywood with Angel Dancers and the Magpie Dance Company.

The Zumba dance class world record attempt will be a fundraising event in aid of Harris HospisCare. Participants will pay an entry fee to take part at a cost of £10 per individual and £25 for a family of four. They may also wish to raise sponsorship for taking part but this will not be compulsory. The easiest way to do this is by creating an online sponsorship page with Virgin Money Giving.

The event takes place in the beautiful setting of The Concert Bowl at Crystal Palace Park and there will be refreshments on sale so you can really make it a fun day out for the whole family.

Crikey - just read my post again - it says ZUMBA dance class and the words WORLD's LARGEST. This could be extremely popular!

If you look very hard and ask the right questions they will give you a letter explaining what's happening, basically no pool, no classes, no squash courts. Gym will be accessed via the Tennis court entrance.

Its a very stealth operation and on a need to know basis. Baggers belief that they aren't advertising this on a big board for everyone to see shocking service.

I don't suppose you know if this will effect their kids summer holiday play scheme (Kool Krew)? I'm counting on that!

Oh darn! I signed up too (after that discussion on the other thread). Just getting into it all! That's incredible. When will the shut down the classes? Any idea?

Just found this on the GLL website:

2012 AND CHANGES AT CRYSTAL PALACE NATIONAL SPORTS CENTRE

I am writing to tell you about some changes that will be taking place at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre during July and August 2012.

Crystal Palace welcomes Brazil!

As you may be aware, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre has been chosen by the Brazilian Team to be its training base during the Games. This is a huge honour and reflects the international quality of the facilities we offer. However, this means there will be some unavoidable limitations on public use during the time the team is based here.

Increased membership benefits

We will do everything we can to limit the inconvenience this will cause you. And as a gesture of goodwill, all pre-paid members of Crystal Palace National Sports Centre will be able to use any Better leisure centre within London at no additional cost between 16th July and 13th August 2012. If you are a Pay and Play member, you will be able to use any Better leisure centre within London at the advertised activity price. All you need to do, is produce your membership card. To find your nearest centre, just visit www.better.org.ukor ask at reception.

What dates and areas will be affected?

The Brazilian Training Camp will be based at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre between 16th July and 13th August. When you visit during this time, you may see more security and members of the press than usual, but please be assured we’ll do everything we can to limit the disruption to you. During this time the following areas will be closed to the general public: The racing pool, teaching pool, diving pool, dome, north pitches and throwing area, squash courts, climbing wall, dry diving area, group exercise area, beach volleyball courts, indoor track and stadium, indoor 5-a-side pitch, Lodge pitch, Lodge, Cheeki Café, Leisure College, north balcony (from 2nd July, and the main arena (from 9th July).

You should also be aware that due to the London Grand Prix event (which we host annually), the entire centre will be closed from 12pm on 13th July until 9am on 15th July.

What will remain open?

The gym and the 25m training pool will remain open between 16th July and 13th August. However, the customer entrance for the gym will move temporarily to the reception near the tennis courts, while the entrance to the training pool will be via the Leisure College side gate. If you aren’t sure where these are, just ask a member of staff.

Better times ahead

We’d like to thank you for your ongoing custom, and hope you’ll enjoy your extra membership benefits between 16th July and 13th August 2012. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully
