As a grumpy old man who takes his dogs for daily walks and cleans up their mess I have noticed an increase in dog foul in Westow park as well as the surrounding roads .Is this just me ?
Dog Fouling , surely its Anti Social Behaviour ?

It's all over nowadays. I am also a dog owner and always pick up after my dogs. What really annoys me is people sticking their beak into my business whilst my dog is doing her business and I am holding a bright blue poo bag in my hand waiting for her to to finish.

Compulsory dog nappies. It's the way forward. Not only would it solve the mess problem but so called 'status dogs' would look so bloody stupid with pampers on that the morons who own them wouldn't be seen dead with one.

I was thinking of this topic only yesterday whilst walking to the station trying to avoid all the dog mess on the way. Does anybody know of anyone who has ever been fined for dog fouling? The other annoyance is people who pick up their dog mess in bags but then just fling it in the nearest tree, or, around the bin area outside my flat. One day, i will spot the person, and collect it all up and deliver it to their doorstep!

Going slightly off topic, but what annoys me is when dogs are not on leads in public. First of all it's dangerous for the dog itself when there's a busy road, secondly it's irritating for those of us who do not like dogs. I think it's about time owners were forced to put their dogs on leads in Crystal Palace Park. I am fed up of seeing out-of-control dogs running around. Owners should have to get a licence to own certain dogs, as people need licences to own other kinds of weapons.

A friend of mine's cat was killed in her own front garden by a vicious dog that was not on a lead. The owner was present but unknown and he just walked away, so nothing can be done.

I suppose this could also relate to badly behaved children. Some parents should have to obtain a licence to have them.

couldn't agree more!!!
I made a guy pick up his dogs poo outside my house... he wasn't very happy but I think I may have looked too angry.... I even supplied him with a plastic bag.... ;0)

The poo issue is annoying. I have noticed Dog owners in Dulwich where we walk in the evening from WN, seem to bag their dogs poo but then leave it in the street...its still litter! In brockwell park, people leave the bags in the grass.
As for licences for Certain dogs? NO. A dog is not a weapon...you just enforce that idea amongst idiots who want you to be scared of their dog. I have a staffie that I got from Battersea, softest idiot of a dog ever born with perfect manners...its people who should be assessed before they are let near a dog. We were assesed before we could got one and they made sure we were grown up enough to look after him. Battersea is full of them - they are in the main great dogs and can be rehabilitated and so easily trained.
The whole thing is also fashionable...in the 70s it was alsatians...then dobermans..then rottweillers..My mum was a nurse for 50 years...dog bites were never confined to one breed. The people that look after my dog when I go away have been bitten twice - at different times, both by border collies. Dogs that have mainly been aggressive to my dog - jack russells...we all have examples...the whole breed issue is a nonsense. Its how you train & discipline your dog. Bad people breed bad dogs - its all about the energy you create around them.
Its down to the council to enforce leads on dogs in the street, which they should do as it seems to be only the 'real' men around here that wont put a lead on their dog, or get them neutered. Or even bother to walk them properly...the poor things only usually get to sniff around on a green across the road...where they poo freely without it being picked up by their rubbish owners and where kids play. Dogs need an absolute minimum of 40 minutes twice a day to create a good bond with their owner and also tire it out so it doesnt get pent up energy and attack other dogs or wreck your house
As for leads on dogs in the park, my dog loves the freedom to run. He is well behaved, although people do flinch when they see a staffie bowling about, he has never been aggressive to people or their dogs [except a bit narky when big dogs try to mount him...he's a bit sensitive when they think he's a girl] but he is absolutely fine with other dogs. But I have had stupid owners with big dopey labradors who want my dog to bite their dogs to 'teach them a lesson' so they become less bouncy. They are as crap an owner as those who have status dogs.
Maybe, in schools - when they are teaching social studies or whatever it is these days...they teach respect, and that includes how you treat all living creatures also.

Its sort of like they see they are doing 'their bit' in the community as expected.....but then just get confused that they have to deal with the rest of the responsibility.
Same people who think its great to bring their kids out to a picnic in the lovely clean park to get them away from the evil influence of TV then leave all their rubbish behind in what becomes a manky littered park. [my dog has tried to work out wjat to do with a crappy nappy on more than one ocassion]
Theres like a mental 'pause button' between thought and action with these people.
