My niece is trying to find a room to rent in London ahead of starting a medical student placement, and as cheap as possible in true student fashion!

I haven't rented for years, so does anyone have any tips for the best route to go down? Is gumtree a good option?

Any tips very gratefully received :)

I would suggest she has a look at this student forum - http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/ and also approach the student unions of local unis. They usually have lists of private landlords renting to students.

Gumtree could be fine but you've got to be savvy with sites like that as there are probably lots of crooks on there.

I would personally use Spareroom or Moveflat as Gumtree is rife with scammers.
