We've got an unofficial loft conversion with what I thought was a sturdy fixed handmade wooden staircase up into it.

Obviously one too many trips up and down with amplifiers and other kit was too much weight for it to bear - because a tread snapped whilst I was bringing a suitcase down this evening, trapping my arm in the hatch I was simultaneously closing. Arm is buggered but that will heal, more worried about getting down my laundry, christmas presents and OH's musical equipment (guitars and amps and such) so we need a quick job - but also a very sturdy one with a very small pitch (we have a small landing, the reason the loft conversion is unofficial is because it's more of a ladder than a staircase).

We need a really competent carpenter or similar who can do us a good job on a budget. Any recommendations? Can post photos of damage if it might be fixable.
