Can anybody recommend a local airport taxi company? Also, any idea how much it would be to Heathrow?

It probably depends on where you live. Penge, Tulse Hill, South Norwood, Sydenham??
(n.b. you can add details of your location to your profile)

Sorry James - I've updated my profile a bit. I live in Gipsy Hill/Upper Norwood (Never sure what to call it!)

last time i got a taxi to heathrow, which was on a tuesday evening over the christmas hol period, it cost £35 (from Upper Norwood). I think we used the company next to the bus station (eagle cars).

Personally I wouldnt use Eagle Cars. due to the following:
Went to the caab office and was told to get in a car. When we got in the car the driver said that the job hasnt been sent to him and he wouldnt move (Even when the woman in the office told himt o take us. We got out and he called us the the C word out of the window as he drove off. Lovely!
We have found CAR2 a better option. (Polite, cheaper, cleaner and more reliable) Phone number is 0208 788 7878

We used Holly Cars on Anerley Road to get to Heathrow early one morning, think it cost around £35-40.

Just a friendly reminder...

The "know what you’re getting into" campaign recommends you should always use a licensed minicab, taxi, or night bus. Last year, 155 sexual assaults of which 42 were rapes involving illegal minicabs, were reported to the police.

We always use Browns in Station Rise, Tulse Hill. £30 to go there and £35 on the way back.

Palace Radio Cars - they're great, and they're in the phone book

Last time they picked me up from an airport the driver came to find me and carried my heavy case all the way back to the car :)

0208 650 1234 - can't remember what they are called (stored under 'Taxi' on my phone ;) ) but we have used them to get to Gatwick. They charged £30 to Gatwick but not sure how much to Heathrow. I think they are the firm down by CP station.

This is top secret info (don't want everyone clogging up the service!) but Addison Lee are nearly always cheaper than a local cab company. Not sure about prices to the airports, but it cost us £19 to get into town the other day. And when we needed a cab home we found the usual response from black cabbies (don't go south of the river) and ended up calling them again. £19 home compared to £30 that a black cab charges. Nicer cars than most, and lovely drivers. I use them all the time now.

That's worth knowing. However the best way to get to Gatwick is taxi to East Croydon and then 15 minutes on the train, and they run every fifteen minutes or so.

I second the Addison Lee recommendation, v cheap vs black cabs back from London.
Also they went to get us a baby seat from their office the other night and it was STILL miles cheaper.
