I'm sorry Wilf, but I think it's days are numbered in its current form. Someone will buy it and turn it into a bar :P .

Rumour has it that it is turning into a South Sea island style cocktail bar. Just to keep Wilf happy.

I was sitting in Noodle Time yesterday staring at the Cambridge (so I had to order some food :P ) and was wondering whether anyone had any updates?

Last I heard it was still up for sale with a 20 year lease....

It's interesting to think how it changing in some way may impact on trade in Church Road. It's one of those pubs in a very strategic location - i.e. on a corner at a major traffic junction. I don't know what people's thoughts on this are...?

This place is amusing. Its like a social experiment for the different factions for our society...

You've got the older punters who prop out the bar a good portion of the day, who've got mainly points to make about society and the way it was in their days. Laughter is loud when one cracks a joke

You've got the hard Grafters, who pop by for an after work beer. Some keep to themselves, others (taking a leaf from the old punters) decide to get in on the convo and tell you their form of justice in the world, normally entailing Graffifti artists and hangings...

And then you have the occasional early adult, popping in for a cosy beer, sharing in the ale and glowing at teh atmosphere

Its an okay pub, with character for sure, though it to me can sometimes feel like the hospital ward of the pubbing world, you could catch something if your in there too long...

Got to admit, have only been in this battle crusier twice in my 10 year plus drinking career up and around the Palace but I was in here last Saturday for quite a few beers and me and some mates did have quite a good laugh in here. In between the Landlord popping out to the bookies he found the time to make us and everyone else in this pub two massive plates of fresh sandwiches as well as listening to some of the mad old time tunes being played out of the jukebox.

As for bringing the Guardian in (previous posting), the paper of choice in here is definately the racing post and the only thing missing from this boozer is the sawdust on the floor..!!!!

Its got my vote.

The gentleman now seemingly running the Cambridge is charming and friendly enough although he does seem to wander off on a fairly regular basis....

Hints of live music there at the weekend as well although not seen it myself...?

I was on here again last Saturday, and did have quite a mad afternnon out. In the evening two musicians turned up and started playing their guitars and singing. They where very good and certainly livened up the place. They could play virtually whatever was requested and where both very good musicians.

We kept them plyed with drink as way of reward, not that they where asking for anything. But this pub, admmitedly not to everyones taste certainly does spring up some good surprises and the landlord is good as gold, he even makes big plates of sandwiches for everyone in the pub, which always goes down a treat when you have had one, two or ten.....!

Sounds like this venues appeal is increasing... maybe it is taken a leaf out of the Almas book with the entertainment aspect...

Sounds a worthwhile evening to be had here...

;)

Adorned these walls on Fri eve for a few

Seemed empty, don't know wheather its a regular feel or a recent robbery the poor Cambridge had been subjected to was keeping people at bay

Had a nice jukebox adding to the atmosphere. Was a quaint if quiet eve...

I dared to go in there for the first time only recently - I never like walking into a bar where I can't see in the windows! (You never know, it might be full of chainsaw-toting zombies.) It seemed a harmless enough place though. Since then, I've been in there a few times. It's rather empty, but the beer's quite cheap. The music videos can be quite cheesy (Westlife's selection of top 100 love songs, last time) but that can be entertaining for the wrong reasons after you've had a few...

They also leave the tv playing on a music channel often if you use the jukebox.

I think when I was in there with a comrade of mine we had the pleasure of Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire" merging with the dance round your handbags anthem "I will survive."

Most incongruous. I'm sure Johnny Cash sounded even more grumpy than usual which I can fully understand given the circumstances.

The beer remains very cheap though.

Apparently, the Cambridge is not long for this world.

It has been sold and in the New Year will be turned into a restaurant.

Watch this space, comrades.
