The Cambridge is now closed and boarded up. I heard a while back it was going to lose its license.
Funnily enough, the hoardings match the colour of the building.

Can't say I am sorry, although it is an end of an era in a way - when I landed in CP years ago the Swan (now Mansion), Cambridge and Sportsman (now G&G) were long standing fixtures within a stones throw of each other.

Hope the staff find alternative employment soon, can't be much fun for them :(

It wasnt my kind of place at all from what I can tell but as I semi jokingly posted before it kept the clientele out of other establishments around here and for that I think it served a purpose

Not sure what will become of it - I'd quite like it to change into a Mr Benn shop where you go in one side as the shop front and out the other into a jungle in full safari gear

Seemed to me to be more bouncers and staff than customers. Can't see what the attraction was.
Will be interesting to see what it becomes. I'm sure that the frontage would be listed?
Seems one place closes and another reopens. Story of the triangle.

Lets just hope that whoever takes over the running of The Cambridge takes advantage of it's location next to the park entrance and makes the frontage etc a place inviting to all visitors leaving the park or walking round the triangle. Westow House and The White Hart have done this well. The frontage is original so I'm praying that it is retained when someone takes over.

My only time going in this pub was a few years back during a lunch break popping to the bank whereupon a poor (old & sozzled) chap had slipped on the glass tiles outside the place and smashed his face full-on on the ground - everyone else stepped over him - it was pouring with rain and no one else seem to be that phased by the situation - so I went into the pub to get them to come out and see if anyone knew who he was considering he had been drinking in there... the bar staff had seen it all before and just called the Ambulance to get him stitched up and no doubt on his feet so he could be back in there the next day!!!

A few years back it went through a period of being gay or gay friendly if my memory serves me right!?

At the end of the day there has to be a pub to cater for everyone's taste or to accommadate their needs its just a shame The Cambridge couldn't manage it or their punters that well.

The Cambridge has had a somewhat chequered history in the last few years.
I'm not surprised its closed. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.

I last popped in here about 4 or so weeks ago and the beer was shocking. The bloke running it was friendly enough but of an evening it looked like it was Fight Night every night.

I'd be surprised in a way if it remained a pub but lets see what happens.
Fighting Nighthawks in the sky
Brave and loyal are these guys
Brothers turning wrong to right
Never running from a fight, fight, fight
Fighting Nightingales

At last this place has been closed down. A delight to see it boarded up to be honest.

Shame to cover a cool piece of local history but it needed to be done

Only downside to this is where the 'Dealers' are going to go and infest next...

I think you're right. There were those colourful banners up in the windows two or three years ago, like in the old Cafe Lava (where the Streets Ahead property cafe now is in Westow Street).

Funny how times have changed - it seems really weird now for an establishment to have to signal that it is "gay friendly"; thankfully that is taken for granted, at least around here.

Me thinks it will be quite some time before another venue on Church Rd ( Cough 25CR- KICC- Cough ) has the Rainbow flag flying outside. Although why anyone would have anything against the Inca's is lost on me ;)

Back to the Cambridge. Anyone have any idea who owns the lease here?

You would think there would be demand for someone to take this small corner pub on and make a great little boozer ( Sorry- Not big enough for fancy chef’s and gourmet food).

Would be a real shame to see it become anything other than a pub.

I'm glad to see the back of The Cambridge and its clientele. The triangle feels a bit safer already.

I'm hoping that the landlord of the Grape & Grain takes it over and expands, thereby having two great real ale pubs in CP. :)
