Seems like the application for a two story bar/café/restaurant on the High Street in the C&V trading building is back on.  Application has been re-submitted after a warning that the original one would be rejected if submitted.  The feature of a terrace, which would have overlooked neighbouring sites and gardens at the back, seems to have been withdrawn.  Clearly this one won't be up and running this side of Christmas even if successful but may be a good addition for late Spring/early summer next year, fingers crossed.

Lol –considering there track record will that be Summer 2017.

There pub in WN is still nowhere near opening, their property at 23 Westow Hill remains bordered up and the hotel extension to The Westow is now so old the planning permission has lapsed.

Probably.  That said they opened the Goldsmiths within about 4 months, though a shabby chic pub in an existing pub site and a restaurant/café/bar in a standard retail unit are different matters.

Interestingly, they are also opening somewhere in S. Norwood.  They've not said where but it is apparently an existing pub so probably Port Manor.

PortManor is probably going the way of all the pubs around here in being non-pubs.

They was a push to turn it into a mosque last year and now its the traditional shonky flats instead,

South Norwood is fast running out of pubs to even contemplate one becoming crafty/gastrofied.

So is the Port Manor decision definitely flats?  Site says decision was made but I'm rubbish at interpreting the verdicts unless it says Refused.

Looks like it was refused.

I love the way the applicant ( wanting to build shoddy  substandard flats) includes a full page article from the Croydon Advertiser about this being the hooligans choice of pub in the design and access statement when it has f-all to do with anything.

It would be a shame if an area with football pubs, serving a large stadium are all closed or changed into cheap flats. Hardly a matchday experience.

Trendy pub company Antic close to securing deal for existing South Norwood boozer

By Croydon Advertiser  |  Posted: September 22, 2015

COMING TO SE25? Antic already owns Westow House in Crystal Palace

TRENDY pub chain Antic is coming to South Norwood and is close to securing a dealicon1.png on an existing pub in the area.

After taking over a string of pubs across south London, including Westow House in Crystal Palace in 2000, the companyicon1.png is now looking at opening two more pubs in Croydon.

Antic applied for planningicon1.png permission to convert former stables at the Mews in Norbury into a pub in April although there looks set to be delays with that development.

Promoted by Whole Earth Foods

However, Anthony Thomas, Antic's founder, told the Advertiser this week a deal for a pub in South Norwood was "close".

Mr Thomas said: "Hopefully in the last few days we have securedicon1.png a site in South Norwood. It is an existing pub so I can't say anything more until it is announced but we should announce within a couple of months.

"We have been looking to come for the last coupleicon1.png of years and we have had people from the area contacting us, asking us to come."

Antic owns 35 pubs across London, including The Job Centre, in Deptford, on the site of a former Jobcentre Plus.

The only "available" pubs in South Norwood that I can think of are the Portmanor, The Ship (there appears to be issues here) or the old Alliance pub by the clock tower which was turned into a barbers school but remains empty.

The new owner of the Ship ripped out the over 100 year old interior and turned it into rabbit hutches, oh, sorry, flats......illegally, they are now appealling the councils planning decision and there is an ACV on the building. See here for updates https://www.facebook...orwood/?fref=ts

Chic Boutique now officially open on the High Street after a ceremony involving Wilfred Zaha (Palace and England) on Saturday.  The owners have done a good job with the old Ego unit so good luck to them.

The old HSBC looks like becoming a.... *drumroll*.... estate agents.

And the old Cheque Centre place is being spruced up ready for something.

Correction... HSBC is becoming a vets.  The old cheque centre will be the estate agents.  And the old Nat West is apparently becoming a halal butcher's - that'll be the fourth on the High Street and Maple Road.

And the Antic (C&V Trading) plans were passed so I guess they will be open summer 2016.  And just over the border in Sydenham Late Knights have opened a pop-up Beer Rebllion till Xmas in the Marketplace pop-up shop location.

The Halloween Trail on Penge High Street, organised by the Penge Tourist Board, was a huge success with 22 traders and the local police station taking part and literally 100s of children filling their little bags and tubs with sweets.

They're advertising for bar staff.  Seven pounds per hour!  I like Antic and their pubs but that is shameful for London.

The Goldsmiths in Penge celebrates its 1st birthday since re-opening, this week with We Ghosts performing on Thursday night, as part of the Christmas lights turn-on.  Lots of other stuff happening on the High St on that day.  Pawleyne have 4 bands on and there's also craft stalls, fun for kids, free taster dishes from local restaurants and carol singing.
