To celebrate Small Business Saturday UK on 5 December, loads of our favourite indie businesses are joining forces for one special day to make our XMAS shopping just a bit more enjoyable ... Spend a certain amount in a participating SHOPBUDDY and get a FREE coffee, beer or treat at its TREATBUDDY! Look out for posters, check in on the FB Page for details and go see if your favourite Crystal Palace indie businesses are buddying up for you this Xmas :) Indies unite!

Some coverage in Inside Croydon too

And there’s to be FREE BEER, too.

The Crystal Palace Triangle is proud of its many diverse, independent traders and family businesses who provide an antidote to the increasingly identi-kit high streets found all over London. As part of this year’s Small Business Saturday, dozens of businesses in SE19 are joining forces to bring a bit of extra cheer to festive shoppers

There’s more than 40 small retailers in the Crystal Palace Triangle, many of them co-operating for Small Business Saturday

On December 5, visitors to Crystal Palace will be able to whizz through their Christmas lists and be rewarded with a free beer, coffee or treat. Crystal Palace shops are “buddying up” with cafes, restaurants and pubs to show customers that Christmas shopping is to be enjoyed rather than endured, and that supporting small businesses benefits us all.

The Crystal Palace Triangle – comprising Westow Street, Westow Hill and Church Road – is home to more than 40 small independent businesses, so it offers plenty of variety for anyone seeking some Christmas gifts.

“Christmas shopping should be fun, but somewhere along the line that stopped,” said Annette Prosser, of Vintagehart, one of the participating Triangle retailers. “We’re really hoping that by showing off all our fantastic independent shops and food outlets, customers will be reminded that buying pressies for family and friends doesn’t have to be a chore but can be a pleasure.”

Those giving out the treats for the day are only too aware that local shops play a vital part in the success of any community. “We are supported all the time by the local shops, whether they’re buying sandwiches for lunch at the cafes or coming for a drink in the pubs after they shut,” said Pawel Pierog, manager of the White Hart pub in Church Road. “It’s great for us to give something back and hopefully we’ll encourage new people to come to the Palace too and that benefits us all.”

Each buddied-up team has made up their own rules for the day, but all customers have to do is spend a given amount in a participating shop to then receive their free treat at a neighbouring pub, café or restaurant.

Posters in windows will have all the details and, before the day itself, you can also browse the event’s facebook page – Crystal Palace Buddy Up – where you’ll find information on who’s taking part and what delights are on offer.
