We're sourcing quotes for decking and fencing and I was wondering if any-one had any further recommendations?

We recently renewed our fencing and used a local company based on Crystal Palace Park Road called Fence Connection.
www.fenceconnection.org. Contact is Paul Bassoo

They were competitive, efficient and we are very pleased with the work. I'm not sure if they do decking though.

If you are considering DIY and looking for a rough reckoning on costs I spent 500 in materials for a 22m fence that is 2 metres high (approx 6ft). This gives 9 standard bays at 2.4m (approx 8ft), with a gravel board, 3 arris rails and morticed round top posts, ballast and cement. Including a gravel board is optional but overall it works out cheaper when the feather edge board is at standard length. I left out the top capping rail to save money. You need planning permission if the fence is higher than 2m - the height measurement is taken from your side of the fence, not your neighbours.

Thanks heaps Dazza and Sunshine. I've rung both Allan and Pauls company and they'll both be quoting.

Thanks James for the heads up on costs, materials and planning. I'm dreading the cost of 230 ft of fencing, plus decking and stairs! But on a day like today the thought of relaxing on lovely new decking instead of our soggy grass with cat and fox poo pressies is heavenly!!

Hopefully once the job's done I'll be able to post a recommendation.

I've just had some work done by Norwood Fencing - Alick is the main man. Very pleased with work and competitive pricing - removed all old fencing and a load of shrubbery off site too.

I hadn't actually meant to make that last post...

Does anyone have any recent recommendations? I have just had a quote for 3k for an area roughly 10' x 15' and this seems a little steep to me. Can anyone tell me how it compares to work they've had done?

It depends on whether your decking is at ground level, or raised above ground, since this will significantly affect the amount of work and materials involved.

Hi top o'the hill
We used Paul at Fence Connection last summer to erect about 100ft of fencing and we were really pleased with the results/cost. Although we haven't used him for decking he can do this too according to his website www.fenceconnection.org

I can also recommend Alick at Norwood Fencing, did what he said & when he said it, measured one day & built the next despite the rain!

May I give a massive recommendation for Paul Drake's decking expertise...

He's done a grand job on my dream decking and been really good on budget.

No hidden extras and will always include you in on ideas or better ways to achieve the finished result.

He has a huge selection of photos of before & after so call him to get a quote.

Friendly with it and an eye for the finer detail.

He does paving to (weather permitting)

He will have pictures of my deck to.

Well chuffed with the result :) Bring on the sunshine... B)
