I have recently moved to the area and have lots of work to do on my property - can anyone recommend a good landscape gardener who can also build steps down from our first floor flat to the garden??

You could try Sue, she's very good and I think she's still doing this sort of thing. Details are on:

Sue Williams Gardens

Also you should check the Recommendations for household services section of this forum.

Hi,

I've recently had Jane from The Plot Gardening Company round, she has been great - very friendly, reliable and reasonably priced for very hard work! I'd definitely recommend her.

I have also used www.earth-craft.com - they are based in west norwood and are good. They do landscaping and design - decking , fencing etc, and a bit of maintenance

Hello everyone

If anyone's looking for a fruit and veg gardener, can I offer my services?

I'm RHS-trained and have just left my job at BBC Gardening to start up my own gardening business. I specialise in fruit and vegetable gardening, so anything to do with setting up or caring for kitchen gardens, allotments, veggie patches, fruit trees, etc is right up my street.

I've designed and built modern potager gardens (mixing in fruit and veg with more traditional planting) but I've also done herb windowboxes and balconies, so the size of the project doesn't really matter.

I also offer classes for those who want to learn more about growing fruit and veg.

I charge 15 p/h and am local to the area. If there's anything I can help with, my number is 07916 206455.

Thanks!

Kate

Did you work on the BBC Gardening website? If so, then you've been sitting a few feet away from me until recently as I work for the BBC Schools website :D .

Ooh - how spooky! Yes, I am that girl.

I knew you were a BBCite (there are a few of us on this forum aren't there?) but I'd never considered that you might be sitting three desks away from me!

We've probably sat next to each other on the shuttle from Olympia...small world!

After seeing a recommendation for Sue Williams Gardens for landscape gardening on this thread I gave her a call but I have to say I was extremely disappointed. On my initial call Sue asked if I could call her back the following morning as she was out and about and couldn't take any details down. This I was happy to do but I had to leave a message as there was no reply each time I rang. My call wasn't returned so I tried again a couple of days later and successfully got through. Sue was apologetic for not calling back and after listening to my enquiry, arranged to visit our home today at 10am. She rang at 10.15am to say that she didn't think it was worth her coming because the guys who do the fencing for her were busy on another job and couldn't commit to another for a while. Somehow this just didn't ring true as I had already explained that I was interested in having a complete garden makeover with a view to having the work completed for next Spring/Summer. I don't think I was asking for anything unusual - just having the garden fenced off and the existing patio replaced with lawn/gravelled areas/plants/shrubs. At no time did Sue suggest this wasn't the sort of work she took on. Very frustrating as I arranged to be at home this morning for her visit! Does anyone have any more reliable recommendations for this type of work?

You could ask at the Secret Garden - they would surely have contacts. Maybe not as good as a personal recommendation, but you could then ask whoever they recommended to give you some references to check out before you decide.

Hi,

I may have already mentioned them, so forgive my repetition - but I would really recommend Jane from The Plot Gardening Company http://www.theplotga...gcompany.co.uk/

They have done a fantastic job and Jane is full of great advice and ideas - she helped me work within my budget and was very reliable etc. I'm over the moon with my garden!

I had some hard landscaping done and some fencing, aswell as planting etc. So I don't think you'd have any problems with a job being 'not the right sort' etc...

good luck!

i have just had jane from the plot gardening round, she has transformed my garden, it was a jungle, after two skips worth of tree and garden rubbish bought carefully through the house, the lawn was layed and the whole thing looks fantastic, her bloke that works for her is so pleasant and was like a whirlwind clearing the garden. can't recommend highly enough,
Also we had someone round before who wanted to do loads of mad landscaping, who never listened to a word we said, however jane listens to what the customer wants! in my opinion good value for money.
comes highly recommended as you can see on the site. hi jane! mark and andrea thanks!
