The thread about leaflet dropping reminded me of a conversation I had with Lady Andreas recently. In my view everyone has one "pet hate" that they feel really strongly about, but about which many/most other people just shrug their shoulders.

Here's three for starters:

1) mine is of course "too many low-flying planes";
2) Lady Andreas's is "people we don't know who park their car outside the house";
3) one of our next door neighbours' is "squirrels".

Looking forward to hearing more from the VN community ;)

My current pet hate is buy-to-let landlords. I know it's the trend now to build a portfolio of buy-to-lets instead of pensions, but it's ruining this area.

people who put make up on trains

People who put make-up on whilst driving. I regularly see women applying mascara at traffic lights. Had to use my horn last week to get the woman in front of me to realise that the lights had changed and she was in a car not a beauty parlour.

Also:

people who smoke on train platforms
people who play loud music on trains
impolite or moody shop staff
graffiti
aggressive drivers
wasps
my commute
the view from my office
inept councils
empty retail units on the triangle

I never used to get so annoyed about things. I must be getting older  .

My main gripe:

-Wonky pictures. I use a spirit level to get mine straight... but they still look wrong!

But also

-Unnecessary 'to let' and 'for sale' signs
-People on trains putting bags on seats to stop people from sitting down
-Queue-jumpers in any situation: cars, airport, shopping
-People who don't put gum in the bin
-Kids on public transport with mobiles that play music: they come with headphones for ****'s sake!
-Wasps - I'm with Gekko on this. The only creature in the world that I would happily see extinct

Phew! This is actually quite cathartic :P

Wow, we are an uptight lot aren't we. :D

For me..... queing. I am one of these people who hates having to queue for anything, but will oblige quietly if needs must, however, I can not stand people who think it is their given right to not have to queue, and pretend not to realise that they are in fact queue jumping. Such a wind up!!!

Other than that, just about everything. :D

people who smoke on train platforms - why isn't it banned in large stations????
people who play loud music on trains - or hum. Grrrrrrrrr!!
impolite or moody shop staff - I have to provide a good public serivce so why shouldn't anybody else?
aggressive drivers - particularly those who can't indicate properly!
yep - always have an overwhelming desire to elbow people putting make up on on public transport.
People who leave bins in the middle of the pavement for no reason....

*rant over* - I'm nice really!!

I agree with the one about people who play offensive music through mobiles.

Also people who go out in the morning with wet hair. Just get up earlier and you'll have time to dry it.

Gekko - if you want to get really annoyed look at this (follow the watch the Police video link)

http://news.bbc.co.u...est/4785686.stm

- New readers and weatherpersons who insist on saying "Hello , Good Evening" - One will do.
- The t****r who drops his chip box into my front garden every Friday night - In fact litter bugs in general
- The 322 bus journey to Tulse Hill
- People who still drone on about their gap year in Thailand/India/South America etc 10 years after the event (snore)
