Many years ago my father had grass snakes sunning themselves on the top of his allotment composts heaps... Harmless, but a surprise for the unwary.

We use a wooden beehive composter from Wiggly Wigglers - which I'm beginning to think is a triumph of attractive design over practicality (the hatch at the bottom is too small to get compost out easily - or may be I'm just inept) - but it composts fast even without accelerator & looks attractive. Although I had both neighbours enquiring about bees...
