And Penge will be "Lower East Dulwich" or some such before you know it and will receive and sustain a bustling daily farmers' market that takes cards.

Scott has opened the back bar between 4 pm and 10 pm just to test the water... it is not too pretty but you can get a beer and hear the plans. Will close before xmas and refit.

Thanks for the heads up on that! We have been by a few times and seen lights on, but it really doesn’t look like anything is happening there recently. Maybe we can pop in one of these evenings…we’d love to know the plans and meet some neighbours.

Walked pasat the pub yesterday and saw a sign in the window saying that they expect to open the pub in Feb. Can't wait. The dolphin is okay but a walk from Penge and will be great to have somewhere closer. i love the mansion so if it's anywhere near as good we'll be happy residents of penge.

Its very exciting to have a new pub opening. Does anybody know the plans and what type of place it will be? Will it be re-named?

Oh, I hope they don’t rename it! It makes a virtue out of a quirk of the location, being sandwiched in a valley between two railway lines. One of the bridges is a lovely tall, arching Victorian railway bridge (serving the line from Victoria to London Bridge, or more locally, CP to Sydenham). On the sign for the pub there is a dramatic painting of a train passing, incongruously UNDER the railway bridge. I hope they emphasize that and tidy up the sign.

I can't wait either.

Hopefully it will be the first decent place in Penge to go for a drink or something to eat.

I was soooo hoping that it would open for the start of Feb for my birthday bash, but I guess it'll be an excuse to hold another get together later in the month!! : )
Went to The Mansion last weekend and the food and ambience were amazing.

I
Can't
Wait

the Bridgey guys are really working hard and the place is transforming really fast. I went by at midnight last night (Sunday!) and somebody was just knocking off work inside. Its got a new Farrow-and-Ball colour on the outside now and some kinda chandeliers visible inside. I'm not in town for the opening bash/pubcrawl

Had a nosey at the interior as walking past and it is looking good. It must be opening soon, does anyone know the opening date?
