Just had my car MOT'd. I used Brown Technical Services (Tel: 020 8778 5113) which are attached to the BP garage on Anerley Hill. The car failed but I knew it would and they fixed it at a really good price. The best thing is that you can collect your car out of working hours as they are affliiated to the BP garage and you can pay/collect keys from there at any time of day. Really useful when you dont get home from work until late. V friendly and efficient and I would happily recommend to others.

We've been happily using Roy Randall in Oak Grove Road ever since we got a quote from Masters of Beckenham, a Renault main dealer, and Roy did the work for half the price. It's a small operation in a row of workshops but Roy's small and experienced team is very committed to doing a decent and fairly-priced job. They are Renault specialists but work on other makes too. I highly recommend them. They are on 8778 4590.
We get our MOTs done at a place in Franklin Road, SE20.

Thanks for recommendation NickJ. Just had car serviced by Roy. Very good.

Pleased to be of service, VKJ. Reading my recommendation back now, it looks embarrassingly like an advert, but Roy really is a good, honest man!

It is hard to tell whether my previous post has been deleted or not and so apologies if I am repeating myself - I do not like the services of Alan Hills Motors of Alma Place at all. I am not sure I am allowed to say anything else but you can pm me and I will provide objective feedback. Hopefully I am allowed to say that I will shortly be involving Trading Standards and issuing a claim form in the county court as those are simply matters of fact.

I am very sorry to hear of this, as I used Alan Hills several times in the past, albeit a few years ago, but he was very helpful when I broke down and needed an urgent repair. The price seemed reasonable too.

I am going with Alton Motors after reading this thread, and will feed back shortly.

Has anyone used Kwit Fit W.Norwood for MOTs? If so, what were they like?

I have and they were OK - friendly bunch of chaps - But if it fails on certain things i.e. emissions, they can't help and you have to go off to another garage to get it sorted before Kwik fit retest it

Just returned with my car from Alton Motors in West Norwood, and happy to give them another thumbs-up. They're doing half-price MOT with a service at present, so the bill (with minimal additions to pass the MOT) was a nice surprise! Tel 020 8670 4343/4034.

Have any members any experience of this garage, if so is it to be recommended?
Any opinions gratefully received.

Does anyone know where I can find a Fiat garage in the local area? Unfortunately my Fiat Bravo has a problem that can only be fixed by a Fiat dealer/specialist. Thanks

Teri, there's Ancaster on Southend Lane and another Fiat dealer at the roundabout at the north end of the Purley Way.

I just bought a used MX5 1994 Eunos and want to get it checked out so that I can take it back whilst for repairs, etc whilst I'm still in my 3 month warranty period. Can anyone recommend a decent garage/mechanic?

Thanks

I've always used Alan Hills motors as they were recommended to me by a friend who used to live locally. I went in with my previous car which was a golf and the first service was great but anytime since has been more and more expensive. I took the golf in for a pre MOT service which came to over 700, he would not give me a definite answer if he thought it was worth it. I took the jump as I liked the car, after all that work it still failed the MOT (to be fair on something which was not part of his test). I ended up flogging the golf 6 months later for 500.

I have now got a Volvo and I decided to give him another chance so I took it in for a general service. I couldn't see anything wrong with it and all he changed was the oil, air and a few bulbs and it came to 350!!.

I don't think I will be going back. I could have done the service myself (and should have) and it would have cost 60 in parts direct from Volvo and probably taken two hours at most.

Next time I will try somewhere else.
