I see they're 'general' cleaners. Will they also do specific jobs?

And, out of interest, are they any good as general cleaners? I was looking to get one in.

I picked up a recommendation for a carpet cleaner from the East Dulwich Forum. They did our whole house in just over 3 hours and I have to say I am impressed. The only stain they didn't get rid of was a very old tea stain and they said the tannin effectively dyes the carpet so it won't come out. Otherwise the carpets look great - all the grubby marks around the edge gone. We picked a lot of stuff up off the floor but they moved a lot of other stuff around. Hi, there are some promising recommendations on here, but very out-of-date, so I'm hoping for some updates.

We've been looking for a local carpet cleaning service, without much luck so far, so I wondered if anyone had any recommendations?  Last time, we used one of those companies who put fliers offering 1/2-price services through the letterbox, but haven't seen any signs of them for ages, and we weren't that impressed with the results.

We're in an upstairs flat, and looking for one reception and the stairs to be cleaned - it's just normal dirt, nothing specialist :-).  I don't have a car, and doubt I'd be able to haul the necessary equipment upstairs anyway, so renting and DIY isn't an option.

Thanks for any suggestions.
