Hello, everyone,
I actually was taken to a motorcar race by my cousin in the 60's that was held at Crystal Palace. Does anyone remember that they used to race motorbikes up there as well for a ahort time.

Last night the BBC2 documentary Nation On Film showed archive footage of Lanchaster cars being driven up the steps in Crystal Palace Park. It said the footage was from 1904, and Crystal Palace was probably chosen as the venue because it held the world's first car show the previous year.

Fascinating film. I can remember as a child going to a vintage car rally in the park in around 1965 (I think I still have my black and white photos of it). Visiting the park now, I have to assume the rally was on the track between the palace site and the sports centre - somewhere on the site of the current car park - though it is hard to imagine that. Anyone else remember that event?

Its amazing, but the original track is still there...or half of it, anyway. The radio control model car circuit is about a hundred yards from one end of what remains and you can drive round to the car park opposite the original Crystal Palace foundations. I was going to put in a competitive (half) lap, but the sleeping policemen got in the way.

Bit of a thread resurrection here, but according to the Wikipedia article filming for the Italian Job took place on the former circuit. Does anyone know which parts of the film included this?
