We are thinking of having a loft conversion as we are having a new addition to the family. Does anyone have any recommendations for a company? Thanks a lot.

Hi Karina,

I'm writing using my girlfriend Margret account  .

My company - Kobe Refurbishments - works on all kinds of house improvement: loft convertions, house extensions, full refurbishments etc.
At present we are on the final stage of loft convertion and full improvement in 3-bedroom flat.
If you would like to come on the building site to see the final effects of our work, please call me (0795819 7887).

You can also visit my website for more details about my company

Hey subee

Thanks for the heads up - sorry to hear about your nightmare...

My neighbours had one done about 1 year ago which seemed to go smoothly, so will have a chat with them, but wanted to get a couple of quotes

Thanks again

My previous post had to be removed because I am not allowed to tell you the names of our loft converters with whom we had the most awful experience. What I can say is that I know two other people who had loft conversions in the area with two separate companies (because no one could find a recommended one) and they, too, had terrible experiences. We were all promised the job could be done within 6-12 weeks and they all took at least a year to complete. Ours took over 1.5 years; the builders took our money and and took our roof off and then walked off the job, moved house and cancelled their mobile phone contracts so we had no way of contacting them. In the meantime, it was raining everyday and we had no roof so our flat got totally ruined. Unfortunately, this forum won't allow me to tell you the names of these people but I'm pretty sure they're not in the area anymore because if I ever saw them again...!

But the moral is; don't go with anyone who has not been recommended. Although it does seem almost impossible to find someone who has had a positive loft conversion experience - the fact that nobody seems to be able to recommend someone on this forum would appear to support that, especially when there are many, many loft conversions taking place in the area. But make sure that if you do find a company that you go and view at least three previous loft conversions to inspect their work, and then talk to the owners at a time when the builders are not around so you can get honest feedback. I would also recommend asking the council as they may have some kind of 'approved' builders list. They certainly get to the know the loft converters very well with all the inspections they have to carry out whilst the job is being done.

Good luck and if anyone does have a good experience, I hope they come here to sing their praises!

Top tip everybody always check with your local authority regards planning permission / building regs even if the builder you are using says they will sort out as if there is a problem the local authority will take you to task not your trader.
Your obviously mistaken me with someone who gives a fig

Hi, I just had my kitchen and bathroom done by 'Creative Constructions' who actually specialise in loft conversions. They're Worthing based but cover the whole of SE England and have no problem travelling, obviously because they've been here for 2 weeks!

All I can say is that if their work on my home is anything to go by, then I would highly recommend them. They're committed to doing a great job, they deal with unforseen problems in a calm and professional manner (and I had a few!!!) and they also provide great advice on design and how to get the best outcome.

And more importantly, they're trustworthy (they've had free run of my flat for the whole time!) and just good guys.

I can't recommend them enough.

Contact is Jez on 07949471505.
