So when did it shut down?
Are all the inside fixtures and fittings still there?
There are plenty of churches in SE London looking for new bigger premises....

Sadly I am not surprised by this development because of the location and size of the site. If it gets planning I feel it would be real pity that it would not stipulate that the existing building should be preserved and incorporated into the design

Not sure whose ward this is but if it is the current council leader's I believe that he is retiring and not standing again - whether that will have any bearing on some political/ lost votes pressure I don't know

However if it is the same Councillor I wouldn't expect much because he has failed to bother to answer my queries on whether he supports or disapproves of other applications in his ward (like the betting shop on westow street.)

There are 3 councillors for upper norwood, if Hugh Malyan doesnt reply (not too surprising given that he was council leader, so lots to do) then you should try the others - Pat Ryan and Iain Payne. They both know about the betting shop application and are doing what they can to scupper it, but they have limited ability to do this over licensing rather than planning permission.

Unfortunately its a bit late the church has been proven its sinking into the clay as the area is notorious for it. Not sure how the councillors can determine its fate its just a case whos got the right money & the right plan that placates the locals (me) The housing association will probably get a plan proposed as their are no commercial issues

I always thought it would be a good spot for a private gym sports club as it has a nice running circuit just outside any Mr Ratners or David Lloyds out there!

Update Just seen new plans for development on site pretty much same scenario.

Nursery has been downsized for approx 78 childeren from 100 children but the number of flats have been increased from 6 x 2 bedrooms to 8.

However the flat development is 4 meter lower than the church !

To be honest I really like the plan & the state of the church & its grounds are in an awful state.

Sorry no detail of of planning number have not rcvd official letter from croydon yet.

Had a very interesting meeting with local residents last night

The opinion was that if the nursery could not be run as a going concern planning permission could be requested to change the facilities use.

Following items were brought up

Drug rehabillitation clinic
Asylum half way homes

We will be requesting that the council ensure that if a plan for nursery goes ahead it will stay a nursery.

Thanks for teh plan number Dazza

As regards the Nurserey I would have thought that it is unlikely to fail given the demand for nursery places. On the other hand in terms of local competition in that area the new nursery next to door to me in Harold road is now open.

Exactly but they are having trouble filling it so that is why the concern is there Croydon originally said that 50 places in a nursery of this size would only be suitable. But they keep asking for this higher figure we will see.

Will keep updated Dazza

Update on planning application 05/01667/p

The same company are persuing the application Morscott 100 Ltd

But the flats have now been reduced to 6 flats from 8 & the nursery still set at a maximum of 78 children though.

I'm sure this will evoke a new residents meeting.
