Cheers for that. I'm pretty sure I can remember the electrical shop next to the station (along with a sweet shop as you do as a child!).

I went to Paxton primary school and I can remember the shops half way down the hill on the left were there in the early 1970s I can also remember the petrol station opening and the fire on Gipsy hill. Station that destroyed the south bound platform Plus I remember two children died in a fire in a house at the Gipsy hill end of Colby road Also a woman who lived in a bungalow at the bottom of charters close committed suicide by lieing down behind a steam roller resurfacing Gipsy hill

The electrical shop was called Medhursts
