Somebody could have ended up with a peice of plasterboard in their beer.... (shudder)

Good to see somebody is making an effort with the Alma at last...

Passed The Alma this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by its striking new paint job. A very nice bright green. I only managed a brief glimpse but it looked pretty good to me. Nice floral display too.
In fact the whole of that apex of the triangle is rather smart in my mind.

Much improved on the inside and better run.

Smarter and cleaner.

Not a bit of gaffer tape in sight.

Over the past few months, there has clearly been a great deal of hard work outside and in. Looks as if changes are still taking place, but the beer garden is really coming into its own. Beautiful plantings along the border, and much more spacious than the White Hart garden, nice though that is. On a sunny evening the Alma seems a a really good laid-back alternative to its opposite neighbour. :)

I was in the White Hart on Saturday night and popped out for a ciggie only to notice that The Alma was suddenly party central! When did this happen :o

Don't get me wrong, it was fantastic to see it so popular but I've never seen it busy before let alone people spilling out all over the street. The weirdest part though is that everyone was under 30 which considering how the pub used to be just freaked me out a bit! Go Alma!

I think they had an event on as there was a band setting up earlier and I saw some posters around the triangle advertising DJs. It was crazy busy though wasn't it?!

It is alot more vibrant now, with music orientated evenings planned

I am looking forward to spending a whole evening in here soon

I think the smoking ban is doing wonders for this and many other places around the country - they all look so busy! Although, in the case of the Alma last Saturday - it was heaving...

The weirdest part though is that everyone was under 30

Thanks Liz! I was with about ten other people, all of whom are very much the wrong side of 30... :D

Jannism - that'll be because everyone's outside now, smoking!

Yeah, that was kind of my point, I just phrased it badly. I only actually twigged why the Alma and several other pubs have looked so lively lately with the masses of people congregating outside.

Shame the summer was only a week long.

Worst bit is all the fag buts in the road or on the pavements. I'm a smoker but at least I try to put my fag ends in the proper disposal unit we have outside work. The pubs could help by providing sand buckets and the councils could install cigarette disposal units on the lamp posts as they have in other boroughs. People could help everyone by getting a personal ashtray…

I went in last night for the first time and it was rather quite, which is no surprise as it was Tuesday. I'm not sure I like the huge TV at the back though!

The screen is retractable and goes up into the ceiling. It was probably down for the cricket...

On a seperate note, they could do with overhauling the beer selection. It's pretty bad, but the decor makes up for it :)
