Having been a member of CAMRA for some time welcome to the club, but make sure you take advantage of your discount to beer festivals in your local area.

When attending these functions you should also wear tight t-shirts to highlight your beer belly with slogans like Oliver Reed *** rest his soul died in action 05/02/2003 or Make mine a firkin one etc

I'm sure CAMRA will not be including the ALMA in the directory just yet .

Enjoy

Went here on Sunday and it was terrible. I really want this place to improve but the service was shocking. There were two people on, one of whom was more interested in eating a sandwich than serving customers and the other who had no idea who was waiting and just kept serving one area of the bar. The guy next to me walked out he got so fed up of waiting and there were a few looks being passed between other customers who were getting irritated.

Also, the football had just finished and there was a group of really rowdy guys making a hell of a racket. When we finally got our drinks, we were accosted by a guy with mental health issues who was working his way around the tables - not the relaxing drink I had in mind. To be honest I found the whole experience depressing and we left after one drink  .

Jannism. I'll be in the White Hart from 12.30 if you want to have a post election post mortem. Hey, I'll even buy you a pint and a bowl of sour grapes....SWTOC

Nice one Charlie... Haven't been in for a while, but I see you have the real ale situation in hand so I'll be in soon. Make sure you clean the pipes!

Black Sheep Bitter and Adnams on.

This is shaping up to be a fine hostelry, even though they took away the jukebox... but then the content of the jukebox was all a little bit 1998.

I like the place, but when myself and Mrs COYI were there, it felt a bit cliquey. I thought it was me, but the missus thought the same. Are we both wrong?

Jannism, if you popped over to the pub across the road which is not The Alma, you may have missed me as my lot were late and didnt get in there until one, hope you enjoyed the game

It can definitely feel like that but it isn't particularly oppressive. Mind you the feeling is invariably softened by meeting someone you know there, who in turn knows someone/everyone else and all of a sudden you find you're enveloped within the clique. Everyone then becomes another person to wave at on the manor, forever more.

COYI - I doubt I would have managed coherent conversation anyway - I was outside the front barking at taxis and waving at dogs...

We clean the pipes religiously :)

We've got Adnams to sponsor us to be Cask Marqued, so we'll soon have a certificate to prove we serve the perfect pint (when they come and mystery shop us at least).

As for the other ale, we're going to have this on rotation. Requests will be entertained.

hey Charlie,

is it true that the BBQ from the market is there every weekend during summer? When is it on ? Sat and Sunday?

The backyard is looking so much better with some nice plants - never liked coming to the Alma I have to admit, but I will now come and 'road test' it, especially as you have got a great outdoor area!
