Does anyone else think that The Queens Hotel is a missed opportunity? It's actually a very handsome building but it seems to have gone right downhill in the last few years?

and that bar that used to be underneath it.... what exactly was the point in that?

Ive only been there for some dinner function via a works do... thats was atleast 10 years ago and it was hilariously old fashioned..... and all the waitress's were over 50 and looked like women out of an acorn antiques episode - mind you half of the hotel on the left side is soley people seeking asylum here and they all sit outside having a good chat & a smoke....

the only thing which has improved is the logo when it was called a quality hotel - the logo reminded me of something from a 70's spanish holiday resort...yellow and brown....nasty!!! I wish they would do something to attract some tourists there....it is a shame its 'gone to pot' over the years and such a lovely building too.....

One way for them to raise some revenue I suppose. Although it is often fairly busy with tourists in the summer, I've seen them all getting on and off their coaches.

There's a big sign outside advertising rooms at 39, pretty cheap for London.

returning to CP for the first time in 5 years in 2 weeks time, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much the Queens is. 34 for the room per night with brekkie is remarkable. My sister is the first to admit the place is a dump, with loads of eastern European asylum seekers everywhere, but it'll be nice to stay there anyway, and hell, it'll be nice to be in walking distance from anywhere. I will post further once I've stayed.

You run a hotel too do you Spoon? What would Mr. Spoon say to that?

I understand he's a bit of a pussycat - he'd surely understand.

Go on, stay at the Spoon's

Seriously though. Would love to hear what you think of the Queen's. It's a ghastly place and I've heard some stories about what goes on there...

I'd recommend not staying at the Queens were it not for my own curiosity to hear how you find it.

Try the Fox Hill B&B instead but my curiosity gets the better of me. Stay at the Queens and as Cilla Black used to say "don't forget to come back and tell us all about it."

Spoons: Thanks for the offer, but I think I'd like to see how bad the Queens really is. I've stayed in some pretty dingy travelodges in the past, can this be worse???

Wilf: The Fox Hill B&B is more then twice the price, and that hill will be a killer!

Yeah of course the price is higher but erm (coughs) yes well I mean I'm sure you'll be very happy at the Queens.

As a fellow ex-All Saints pupil I was only looking out for your comfort and well-being. ;)

Spoon Towers is a lot nicer than a Travelodge. I'd say we were achieving Holiday Inn/Best Western at least.

Can you bring this visit forward? We're all gagging to hear how it goes!

Maybe the July VN social should be in the bar at the Queens.
