I've discovered that some of my family were living in the West Norwood area in the 1870s.

Samuel Gant was born in Suffolk in about 1816, but by the time his son William married in 1876 the family were living in Eden Road, West Norwood. When William's wife, Emily, died in 1893 they were living at number 35 and his brother Samuel was at number 23 (or 25).

Looking on Google Street view it seems that one side of the road has buildings that are far newer than that. So I wondered if anyone knew the history of the road. Were the earlier buildings bombed in the Blitz, or were they knocked down at a later date so the area could be redeveloped. Does anyone, by any chance, know anything about the Gant family. William was a coal-porter. Is it likely that any of the family were buried in West Norwood cemetery?

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave...
