MSG, salt and food colouring-laden food which is about standard fare for third-rate chinese restaurants everywhere.

I can't say I was overly impressed with this place either - I had a "chicken" dish, and I use the word chicken very loosely, that was spongy, salty and sticky.

<_<

Its funny really, during the evening I spent in here last Saturday, I thought it was a pretty good evening all round. Now reading some of the previous posts, makes you re-analyze the evening thinking back over the food...

Not to say its totally bad. Some food is better than others. Thinking back on it, the curry tasted a bit too much like gravy, but ive come to not expect too much of a curry from a chinese (its an Indian you want for a proper rubby let's face it). And agreed, the spare ribs were a bit stringy...

But the restaurant is nice. The staff are quite friendly, but do let the side down when a Shandy is asked for, and you get back a quizzical look (could be new, needs to spend more time in the good British pub!)

Overall, average. I enjoyed the evening. Food may be give or take. There are better places to eat...

Well it's funny.

After years of thinking this place was probably awful, I went in the other night with my wife and son.

Food was excellent, service was superb, price was even better.

I've been in most of the restaurants in CP and surrounds, and on service this beats them all.

I eat out quite a lot in Chinatown in Central London, and Mr Kai's wouldn't be out of place there - nicely decorated inside, never overcrowded, food is fine. Have been quite a few times over the last yr, and got to know the people who own/work there, to the extent that they wave when we walk past now, and we have a nice chat when we go in - makes a big difference to get such a personable service :D

Seems to have closed down. . . :(

I will try to ring Steve, the owner and find out what's going on.

If it's permanent, it will be a real shame, as Mr Kai was an absolute gem.

I'm fairly sure it is being refurbished.

Hope so anyway, as I quite like the food from there.

And any place where the customers chase out a gang of armed thieves must be good.

Cheers Bri

Nope, looks like it's gone. Shame I liked it.

They put a bit too much msg in their food, but it did exactly what it said on the tin. Mrs Elmo was quite fond of it... -_-

That's a real shame, Steve (the owner) was a real gent.

Out of interest, what has happened to the premises, are they still just empty with the Mr Kai sign up?

Still empty. It's not a good location being 'Off Triangle' and no parking etc.
