Hi all

I have been contacted by a cinema group that possibly might be interested in having a cinema in the Crystal Palace/Norwood area. I wrote to a group of cinemas about a year ago trying to get something done about the vacant pubs around the Norwood Junction area.

Apparently, they were looking at the Gala Bingo hall around Church Road but have lost out. They were wondering if there would be support in the area and if people would be willing to support such a venture coming to the area. Also, if anyone knows of any other premises with very high ceiling 6 metres high!! They also need around 20,000 sq ft.

Very early days but they would be interested in hearing everyone's views. I can't at this stage give out the name of the group but would be one everyone would approve of - eg not a nasty multiplex.

Let me know your thoughts and if anyone would be up for starting a petition to ensure things get through planning permssion.

I think it's a great idea and would be supportive. The area definitely needs a cinema and it would be even better if it was not a chain (although I don't have much against them).

I would rather see a cinema than a bingo hall, or empty premises.

I think it's a great idea too. so long as it doesn't affect Crystal Palace Park.

What about the land where the Pizza Hut used to be? Probably too small an area?

Being nostalgic, had my very first date there.

If it was something like the Clapham Picture House, it would be brilliant.

Same here - had the same call as Sunray and posted about it in the cinema thread.

Sunray, I don't want to double up. Let me know how you want to collate.

Cheers,
Spoon

Fingers crossed its a picture house type cinema

I would rather spend my money round here, than travel to clapham / brixton / greenwich picture houses.

Whats the building next to the grape & grain pub, is that big enough? or the building next to the bingo?

Not sure if they would get planning permission, but does the old newsagents on the corner of westow hill / westow street has empty flats above it, and to the side of it (central hill)?

YES YES YES! I would loooooove a cinema, of course a Picture House would be ideal, as I'm a member already, I would go even more, but to be honest, I would support ANY cinema, unless it's an over 18 only... Please let me know if there is any way of being more supportive.

Definitely - it's something the area really lacks - we always end up treking to Croydon, but would be likely to go much more often if there was one on our doorstep!

Not on Crystal Palace Park though? Please.

I bought a 50" tv and home cinema system with my redundancy. Invite your friends and neighbours around. Who needs another cinema?

Very good if it happens. Can't really think of anywhere big enough without wholesale redevelopment (what about knocking down that old wooden building next to the church -joke!).

Are they looking for somewhere to convert or would they consider newbuild??

The site of Pizza hut or McDonalds would be ideal for a new small cinema but would it be viable?
