People for Portland Road are holding a ceremony to mark the Centenary of William Ford Stanley, an important figure in our local history (see www.williamfstanley.org). They will be laying a wreath on Stanley's grave in Elmers End Cemetary on Saturday 15th August. If you would like to attend meet at the eastern gate (on Elmers End Rd - a few metres down from Birkbeck Tramstop) at 2.30pm.
John Hickman (PPR's very own local historian) is organising this and will be saying a few words - he is also considering showing people one or two other graves of interest in Stanley's area (WG Grace and Thomas Crapper). Eloise Akpan, Stanley's biographer will also be there.
