Hi,

I'm a freelance photojournalist and often get to spend too many hours stuck in front of a computer in my home office. Having worked in busy office environments up until about 18 months ago, I still miss those coffee-at-the-kettle moments or spontaneous lunches. Anyone else feeling the same and sat there thinking "there must be other freelancers sat in their home offices thinking the same thing"?

Let me know if you'd be interested in setting up an informal coffee / lunch network. Note I'm not using the "networking" word - if useful contacts come of it then all the better. I just want to make working from home feel a bit more human. Artists, photographers, web designers, book-keepers, writers, journalists, garden designers, stand-up comics, designers. . . . .doesn't matter what you do.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sounds a great idea Andy. I'm a freelance web-designer and I'm rapidly going mental working from home on my own! I still don't really know many people in the area yet, so this kind of thing sounds perfect -- I definitely could do with some friendly people to meet for lunch from time to time.

What kind of thing do you have in mind? Something in the Triangle?

Me too. Been a freelance writer for two and a half years and find the dark winter days can be quite hard. Christmas even worse - no office parties / mince pies / cheeky mulled wine in the kitchen. Please count me in!

What a great idea!
I'm also a freelancer (of the less creative, IT project management type) who works from home as well as various clients' offices.

Also, being a contractor generally means no invites to Xmas parties.

Is it too early for mince pies? ;-)

Hi Matt-h, Nanazola and DeeBee

Great to see such interest already ! All freelancers welcome - not just creative, writing etc types. I really missed having Christmas parties to go to last year but managed to gatecrash my previous employer's one. Mice pies - Yes !! I was thinking somewhere around the triangle - any preferences. I'm based at the very bottom end of Farquhar Road (slightly lacking in Cafés since Blue Mountain closed)and a walk up the hill is always a good way to get some fresh air and some exercise.

This week's pretty busy but how about a coffee some time next week - Monday or Friday best for me at the moment.

All the best
Andy

Great idea, count me in. Though I'm not a freelancer either, but a research student working from home. Would love to talk to people who exist off the screen sometimes. Other than the drunks in the park, that is.

Can do next Friday 4pm. Or other times next week.

A nourishing and economical snack, perfect for the modern freelancer. Well, if Dazza and co can eat grey squirrel...

Next Friday - the 13th! - at 4pm good for me too.

Yay - there is life out there ! And you're not all put off by my weird diet !

4pm next Friday 13th sounds a great time to pop out. Could end up as being "out" out...

How about Cafe Nero? Bring a mouse to identify yourself.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Might be able to pop along for a while, still planning Friday 13th at Nero from 4pm?
