Hello all fellow local historian boffins!

...and, of course, non-boffins.

Found this whilst trawling through some local stuff:-

Interesting and disturbing food for thought.

cheers

Where is it and is there any public access?

It's about a third of the way along the parade from the Vicar's Oak. Dunno about access, I'm guessing it's all fenced off and closed up on the park side, it used to be falling apart in the 80s that side... But on the other side of the road you can see a bricked up gateway at the top of the stairwell that leads down to the back of the subway. Again, the stairs were in disrepair back in the 80s as well.

Just looked up these for you...

Station Side

Hope they help.

Can you remind us what the Vicar's Oak is, Rikaitch? Can you see one entrance if you look down over the railings at the junction of Farquhar Road and the Parade, or is that something else?

I believe Vicar's Oak stood at the junction of the Parade/Westow Hill/Anerley Hill/Church road and was the parish boundary, and now the borough boundary. The best place to see into the subway is the area surrounded by railings at the top of the park, halfway between bus station and transmitter. In the park masterplan it was proposed to turn this stunning space into the museum with a new building over the top.

Have seen lots of pictures of the subway, and one or two of the old station exterior, but never any of the station interior, and how it connected to the subway. Anyone seen any or know where to find them?
