Telegraph Sport can disclose that Tottenham will offer a 20,000-seat redevelopment of Crystal Palace as the legacy component of their bid to occupy the Olympic stadium after the 2012 Games.
Spurs are bidding against West Ham for the arena, and want to demolish the £500 million 85,000-seat stadium and rebuild a 60,000 football ground from scratch without a running track.
With West Ham promising to retain the athletics track in a mixed-use community based stadium, Tottenham’s plan falls well short of the athletics legacy promised by the 2012 Olympic bid.
But while West Ham remain the first choice of many stakeholders, doubts over the financial strength of their offer have increased in recent weeks, and senior figures in government and the Olympic project are now open to the athletics legacy lying outside the stadium.
They are also mindful that were the West Ham bid fail to stack up they may have to take the best athletics option they can or be left with nothing, making Tottenham’s proposals for Crystal Palace more realistic.
______________
My word, who'd have thought anything good could come from Spurs...

As for the financial viability of West Ham's bid, that it just lazy journalism. WHUFC have major backing from London Borough of Newham and Live Nation. 'Legacy' wise surely WHUFC are a shoe in. They currently live in Newham and should stay there. The Totts should stay in North, not East London.
That said, it was me that posted over a year ago that it was WHUFC that originally wanted to get rid of the track and invest in Crystal Palace stadium. For me that would be the best solution, but Lord Coe et al demanded a 'legacy' in Stratford which WHUFC agreed to.

I'm not trying to add to my credibility for christs sake ( can I say that Ziwa?) It is well known and accepted in football terms to use the phrase, 'they' use it themselves. 'As often as I can'? What is that supposed to mean? I dont think I've used the term before. Yes I know I'm not on a football site but I'm commenting on a thread concerning footballgood to see you SLR, but why oh why do you insist on using pejorative group terms as often as you can? What does it add to your credibility besides making you sound like you think that your tribe is better than other tribes? Maybe you say you can use that term if you are a member of that tribe, but we can't tell that from here.
Maybe I'll just bugger off again if THAT gets peoples goat. CREDIBILITY? Blimey.
BTW It's a pavement, not a sidewalk. Why oh why do you insist on using these terms?
BTW once more Ziwa, not perjorative at all, speak to a football fan and you'll get it.
Thanks Hermit

*** - the first definition here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/*** is what I understood, is pejorative and is the most common. But they do describe the second, the badge of pride for Tottenham Hotspurs, which I didn't happen to know about until I looked it up now, and clearly what you are referring to. Since your post was largely critical and the term is most commonly used as a pejorative, it would have made it less alarming if you had provided a clarification in your post.
Sorry if I was mistaken. Indeed, I grew up with a slightly different vocabulary, but language varies with geography on lots of scales. Where I come from pavement is any paved surface, including the road.

OK - proof positive - I wrote the post using the word you did without quotes and the website has immediately redacted it, automatically, on posting. Of course it CAN be used in a non-pejorative way, but first default is that it is used with intention to harm, the website is deciding to keep it off the thread.

Yes, I was critical as Tottenham Hotspur Football Club seemingly want to ride roughshod over our plans for the Olympic Stadium which tick all the boxes. I dont want a running track around a football ground but if thats our springboard to the next level then so be it. They seem (according to the 'article') to have got 'round that. You mention 'tribe', there's the rub, THFC have no place on my manor and should stay in N17. E15 is ours. Get orfff moi laaand

Request for clarification - when the article says 'offer a 20,000-seat redevelopment of Crystal Palace as the legacy component of their bid' they are talking about the the current CPFC Selhurst stadium, right?

No, they are talking about the Athletics stadium in the park. Would make sense in reality though as CP athletics stadium will be scaled down massively (as reported) if the track stays at the Olympic Site. No more London Grand Prix for the palace

Tottenham said it will cost 250 million pounds to build both a stadium on the Olympic site and turn Crystal Palace into a 25,000-seat venue that can also be temporary enlarged to host the world athletics championships.

Spurs propose to tear up the running track installed for the 2012 Games and instead turn the Crystal Palace athletics arena into a world-class venue with a new warm-up track. The club believes running tracks spoil the view of the pitch and detract from the atmosphere.

Spurs have promised to boost the capacity of Crystal Palace by 9,500 to 25,000, with the ability for it to be extended by up to 15,000 for a World Championship.

I'm completely confused as to why Spurs want to have their football club in east london - Am I missing something?
As for the Crystal Palace bit of their offer - it sounds quite good to me and I think it would appeal to Bromley and many athletics enthusiasts but who would run it?
